The Lakeland region of Northern Alberta is approximately 3 hours northeast of Edmonton, north of the North Saskatchewan River and at the southern edge of the great boreal forest. The area, famous among Albertans for its many healthy lakes, includes the communities of Elk Point, Lac La Biche, Smoky Lake, and St. Paul, among others.

Position Summary

Lakeland Primary Care Network is currently hiring a Physiotherapist (1.0 FTE Full-Time or 0.8 FTE Part Time) to travel to communities in the Lakeland region (Smoky Lake, Lac La Biche, Glendon, Two Hills and other sitesThe Physiotherapist screens and navigates referrals, assesses, diagnoses and develops treatment plans for clients referred with a variety of musculoskeletal conditions to our Ortho Triage and Treatment Program.

  • Additional services to be shared amongst all member towns in the Lakeland area, to provide services on an outpatient basis
  • Provide outpatient rehabilitation services to patients and manage chronic musculoskeletal problems
  • Assess and mange patients with chronic and confirmed soft tissue injuries
  • Provide subjective and objective assessment of patients in the clinics who request long term opioids after a remote injury
What you will do...

Provision of Clients Care

  • Screen and navigate incoming referrals based on information provided and program inclusion/ exclusion criteria
  • Collect health history, inspect and palpate joints, muscles and surrounding structures for abnormalities and signs
  • Observe posture and screen movement mechanics to identify asymmetries, or impairments and evaluate function
  • Test active/ passive range of motion and muscle strength to identify limited or excessive joint range of motion and muscle weakness
  • Use clinical/ provocative tests for muscle, ligament, tendon, joint, nerve integrity and other structures to indicate specific pathology
  • Review diagnostic imaging such as x-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI when available

Treatment Planning

  • Interpret health history, physical examinations and imaging to formulate a musculoskeletal diagnosis identifying cause and severity
  • Provide education to clients on disease pathology, prognosis, surgical and non-surgical treatments and timelines
  • Review non-surgical treatment options in addition to above: pain/ inflammation management; activity modifications; exercise therapy, manual therapy, mobility aids, weight loss, among others that are evidence or best practice based
  • Collaborate with clients to develop a treatment plan based on available and recommended treatment options

Coordination of Care

  • Document all assessment, diagnosis and treatment information in a full and comprehensive electronic medical record report
  • Communicate all relevant health information with referring, consulting and treating physicians and allied health professionals
What you need to succeed...

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited University
  • Registered with College of Physiotherapists of Alberta or Alberta Association of Physiotherapy

Professional Experience

  • A minimum of five (2) years of clinical musculoskeletal experience
  • Excellent musculoskeletal assessment and diagnosis skills
  • Awareness of community and specialist rehabilitation services
  • Knowledge of medical and allied health professions and related services
  • Proficiency with an Electronic Medical Record (EMR), ideally med access, and Netcare
  • Advanced knowledge/ expertise of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.)
  • First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required

Other Job Related Requirements

  • As travel is required from the PCN office to other sites, a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required
